Trade turnover between the Kaliningrad Region and Tajikistan grew by a third
Diplomats of the Republic of Tajikistan discussed the development of trade ties with Russia’s westernmost region during a trip to Kaliningrad for events marking the 81st anniversary of the heroic storm and capture of Königsberg.
The central event of the visit was a meeting with Governor Alexey Besprozvannykh.
The parties discussed opportunities to increase trade turnover, noting that its figures grew by 34% last year.
“We agreed to step up the pace of cooperation, develop industrial collaboration, and create joint projects in tourism and agriculture. The Kaliningrad Region is interested in mutual supplies of confectionery products, increasing supplies of dried fruits and fruit and vegetable products to the region, such as onions. We confirmed our mutual interest in formalizing our plans with a cooperation agreement at the regional level,” Alexey Besprozvannykh commented on the results of the meeting.
According to him, the development of partnership will be facilitated by the BRICS Mall Kaliningrad trading house, which is planned to be opened this year.
“We expect that this will be not only a trading platform, but also a center for the development of humanitarian ties between our region and the BRICS countries,” the regional head noted.
During the meeting, the governor handed over to Khurshed Sherali, Consul General of the Republic of Tajikistan in St. Petersburg, a combat award of their compatriot, Red Army soldier Alim Ishanov, which was found by Kaliningrad search teams.
